Slip-n-Slide

We took our slip-n-slide over to my parents house to play!  My kiddos loved it.  We ate popsicles and even my parents dog ran through with us.  W found a grasshopper and carried it around for like a half hour calling it hopper and saying it was his new friend.  Baby G loved the water when she had a popsicle or when brother was there.  My family loved to see my kiddos play on the slide.  W was being funny and started running from the other side of the yard (which is huge).  It was a fun, wet and wild day!

The Hogle Zoo

We marked off going to the zoo this past week.  My sister was in town from Oklahoma and the girls in my family love the zoo so since my dad was out of town, my husband was at work, we went!  We were super excited to see all the improvements they have done to our Utah Hogle Zoo.  They added a place called Rocky Shores, which has bears, polar bears, seals and sea lions.  It was super cool to see it finally done after two years.  My son wanted to see the Polar Bears really bad, unfortunately they were in the back room and not able to be seen.  He was sad for a minute but got over it really fast when he got to sit on the polar bear statue head.  My daughter has never been to the zoo, she loved it.  She pointed at the giraffes and the elephants and was clapping.  Overall it was a huge success.

T-Shirt Blanket

I made a blanket for my son from all his old t-shirts that I've loved or that meant something to us since he was a baby.  It's fun to tell him about all the shirts and then see him tell someone else about them.  He knows what he wore home from the hospital, what shirts we brought back from vacations, his favorite blankets from when he was a baby, etc.  It's a fun way to preserve the memories.  I love that I didn't finish the edges and I can continue to add to it when he is older.

4th Dress

I made this following this pattern and have yet to get baby G into it with a good picture but they are adorable (I also made one for my niece)  This pattern was so simple and easy to follow!  I love that I can make it out of old Tshirts, will definitely be making it again.

Ice Filled Balloons

This was SO FUN and BEAUTIFUL! Last night W and I filled balloons with a little water, then added food coloring, then continued to fill the balloons full.  We froze them over night and then today played with them outside!  My kids were mesmerized by these!  Baby G kept wanting to touch it and then she would cry when she did because they were cold.  It was so cute, but also a little sad for her, she couldn't touch the pretty things.  They look like giant marbles I think.
This is what they looked like before...well some of them are already open.

W loved to cut them open and see what pretty color they were going to be.

The yellow was my favorite.

Homemade Playdough

Our summer fun today was Make Homemade Playdough.  The only type of playdough I've ever made was pumpkin spice playdough in the fall that smelled delicious!  The playdough recipe I tried this time was so easy and took less than five minutes per color once I got the hang of it.  I made six colors and then W made a few more by mixing them together...which seems to be what he loves to do.
To make this you will need:

1 Cup flour
1/3 Cup Salt
1 Cup water
1 T. oil
1 t. cream of tartar
Food coloring

Put the flour, salt, and cream of tartar into a saucepan.  Add the water and oil and food coloring and mix all together on medium heat.  It will have lumps and they can be kneaded out later.  When it starts to stick all together then it is done.  Put it on wax paper to cool and then you can play, play, play!!

So simple, so fun, and hours of entertainment!

Here is our list of SUMMER FUN!

Paper Bag Puppets

Well today was Paper Bag Puppets.  This was a lot of fun.  It was great to see how funny my son can be.

I get out a bunch of different things to decorate with and let him go at it.  He LOVED the glitter glue the most.  Surprised?  I'm not, he is four after all. He wanted me to draw on the mouth for him.

We used a lot of glitter glue so they had to wait overnight to dry.

And we cleaned the front closet out today.
See that thing in the right corner....that is our rockband game....have nowhere else to put it even though it drives me crazy being there.
Oh and W had fun waking up and playing these this morning.

Treasure Ice Cubes

Treasure Ice Cubes:

Today was day one of our summer experiment.  W drew out make treasure ice cubes.  We spent a good half hour that morning searching the house for objects he thought would be cool frozen.  We made one tray for him and one for baby G.  (We picked larger items for baby G, but please be careful because kids love to put things in their mouth)  After finding a lot of randoms...we filled them with water and put them in the freezer and the waiting game began.  The first hour, W probably checked on his 'treasures' every five minutes.  But finally they were done and we took them outside to watch them melt!

I put a bowl of water out there too so that he could experience them melting faster in the water.  It was fun to see his reaction.  Baby G just wanted to eat the ice cubes and splash in the water until eventually she dumped it all over herself and brother....which just made it more fun.  After the treasure cubes were melted, W didn't want to be done so we took a big bowl of regular cubes outside and had fun playing with them.

W also drew out of the chores, organize kitchen drawers.

CAUTION: THESE DRAWERS ARE EXTREMELY EMBARRASSING.

After about fifteen minutes and a few storage containers....

We have some organized kitchen drawers.  I do have one more drawer in my kitchen that we call the junk drawer....but it has its very own stick in the jar....trust me, it needs one.
